Looking for the Cause of Diarrhea
Diarrhea may be occurring when the person experiences discharging watery and loose stools. This condition will make the person affected to pass stool more that 3 times per day. In a single day, a person can pass more than a gallon of stool. Acute diarrhea is a normal medical occurrence, second to that of the common cold and it usually lasts for a day or two however, if the condition does not improve after two days, then it is considered a serious problem for it may lead to dehydration.
There are various causes of diarrhea. A troubled digestive system due to acute diarrhea may be associated by viral, parasitic, or bacterial infection. For chronic diarrhea, there are various causes such as lactose intolerance and inflammatory bowel disease. The usual suspects of diarrhea are the following:
Viral Infections are very typical because there are a lot of viruses that causes diarrhea such as rotavirus, cytomegalovirus, viral hepatitis, Norwalk virus, and herpes simplex. The infections usually occur in the small and large intestines and they are called Viral Gastroenteritis.
Parasites can get in the human body through water or food then they emigrate to the digestive system. Parasites like Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia, and Entamoeba histolytica are the common diarrhea causes.
Better be on the lookout for bacterial infections that may result to diarrhea. They enter the body similar to that of viruses, through contaminated food and water. The usual suspects of bacterial infection resulting to diarrhea are Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, and E. Coli.
Another diarrhea cause is intestinal disease and functional bowel disorders. With Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diarrhea is often a symptom while colitis and Crohn’s disease result to diarrhea. Now, these diseases and disorders may require surgery and more often than not, the process of treatment may cause the development of diarrhea.
Finally, the other diarrhea causes are intolerance to certain foods and medical reactions to some form of medication. Some people may lack the ability to properly digest food components resulting to diarrhea. These components may be sweeteners or lactose commonly found in milk.
Diarrhea causes are very elusive hence researches don’t want to undergo a thorough study about them. All is well considering proper hydration is the key to combating diarrhea.
